I am a doctoral student at USC in the department of American Studies & Ethnicity, studying mass incarceration and the disruption of motherhood, as well as the overlap between criminal justice and culture.
Previously, I was a staff writer at Salon where I wrote about culture, race, feminism and criminal justice. I also interviewed activists, authors, actors, musicians and other entertainers for Salon's video series “Salon Talks.” I was shop steward for Salon’s Union and continue to be a member of the Writer’s Guild.
In 2017, I graduated from NYU's Master's program in Global Journalism and Africana Studies. I've also written for New York Magazine, Quartz Africa, Mass Appeal, Truthout, Latino Rebels and HiphopDX. I founded the hip-hop blog and Youtube channel Come Home With Me in 2013.
